• A large portion of the budget is spent after the initial release
• Many people are surprised by maintenance

• New funtionality to solve new problems

• Existing problems are found
• Existing features are improves
• New functionality solves new problems

• Initial pages had simple requirements
• New skills should be demonstrated by reworking old pages
